With so many social media platforms around, making sure your images work on every site is trickier than ever. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the recommended pixel sizes for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest!
Instagram Image Sizes
On Instagram, you want to make sure your profile picture is 110 x 110 pixels. This will be cropped to a circle, so keep this in mind when designing your page.
For your Instagram posts, you have the choice of a square photo, which is 1080 x 1080 pixels, or a portrait photo that’s 1080 x 1350 pixels. Either way, their thumbnails will appear as smaller squares on your profile.
Instagram stories, on the other hand, are always portraits with a 9:16 aspect ratio, so you want to aim for 1080 x 1920 pixels for the best results.
Facebook Image Sizes
Your Facebook profile picture is also cropped to a circle, but should be around 180 x 180 pixels big on both personal and business pages. Your cover photo sits behind this, and its optimal size is 820 x 312 pixels.
Moving on to Facebook posts, any images you share will appear as 1200 x 630 pixels, while links will be 1200 x 628 pixels.
On Facebook, there is also the option to create an event page. The images on these pages have their own unique size of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Twitter Image Sizes
On Twitter, you want to make sure your profile picture is 400 x 400 pixels and crops into a circle without issues. To perfect your Twitter profile, make sure your header photo is 1,500 x 500 pixels, keeping in mind that it will be partially blocked by your profile picture.
Twitter allows for a maximum of four images per post, and the number of images you include will dictate how they appear in the feed. A single image should be 1200 x 675 pixels, while two images will appear as 700 x 800 pixels each, and four images will be 1200 x 600 pixels each. The format to be most careful of is three images, as the image’s position within the tweet will dictate the size it appears as. The image on the left will be 700 x 800 pixels, while the ones on the right will be 1200 x 686 pixels.
LinkedIn Image Sizes
Your LinkedIn profile image sizes are slightly different depending on whether your page is for a person or a company. Both profile pictures will be 300 x 300 pixels, but your personal will be cropped to a circle, while your company’s remains square. Similarly, your personal cover image size should be 1,584 x 396 pixels, while your company’s needs to be 1128 x 191 pixels.
In terms of LinkedIn posts, both shared images and links are 1200 x 627 pixels.
Pinterest Image Sizes
For Pinterest, your profile picture should be 165 x 165 pixels.
Your Pinterest Board has two different thumbnail sizes; larger thumbnails will display as 222 x 150 pixels, while smaller thumbnails will show as 55 x 55 pixel squares.
Pins themselves should ideally be sized at 600 x 900 pixels.
YouTube Image Sizes
Last on our list of social media image sizes is YouTube. On your channel, you want to make sure your profile picture is 800 x 800 pixels, and your cover photo is 2,048 x 1,152 pixels.
The videos you upload need to have an aspect ratio of 16:9, and be 1280 x 720 pixels in size.
Though there are many more social media sites out there, this list covers most of the basics, and should give you a good head start on creating posts and profiles online. This list will be updated as often as possible, so you can always revisit it if you need a reminder!
