Stats on organic social show that organic reach dropped again at the end of 2019. In fact Hootsuite said, “As of late 2019, average reach for Facebook posts was down by 2.2%, meaning that brands could reasonably expect their posts to be seen by about 5.5% of their page’s followers. Big brands with massive follower counts can expect even lower averages.”
Facebook, the grand-daddy of all social platforms, holds a vast amount of data on its 2.45 billion monthly active users. It also owns Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, making it one of the biggest and best advertising tools out there. If used correctly, you can target and audience down to age, location and interests. You can generate leads, video views, send traffic to your website, increase engagement and sell products – to name but a few!
LinkedIn has 675 million monthly users (with over 28 million users found here in the UK) and boasts over 30 million company pages. Here’s a stat to blow your brain – An ad on LinkedIn can reach 12% of the world’s population. This is a B2B marketers dream!
Do you see where we are going with this? Organic social media is ok, but will always be very limited in its reach. It is great for engagement, but if social media advertising isn’t a part of your annual marketing budget, then it should be. Advertising on social needs to be taken seriously, and executed properly.
Twitter, also has 330 million monthly active users and 145 million daily active users. 14.1 million users are to be found in the UK. According to Hubspot “ Twitter’s Q3 2019 report, users are increasingly engaging with ads on Twitter. Simultaneously, Twitter says that the CPE (cost per engagement) is down 12%.” Twitter is the king of hashtags so it’s perfect for campaigns to get that all important reach.
