With the rise in quirky and exciting TikTok videos, Instagram have come up with their own way of sharing snippets of creativity. If you are familiar with Instagram Stories, you will have no trouble understanding how to use Reels.
What are reels?
Instagram Reels allow you to record and edit multiple short videos, accompanied by almost any song. You are then able to share them effortlessly with your followers and the wider community. Reels are an amazing way to get experimental and creative- so why not have a go?
Making your first reel
Creating an Instagram Reel is very simple yet extremely satisfying. To begin creating, you simply open up the Instagram Stories camera and select the option for Reels. Once selected, you can then choose a song to play alongside it.
After deciding on a great song, it is time to set the timer and countdown. The timer allows you to record your videos hands-free. Once the record button has been pressed, you will be able to see a 3-2-1 countdown begin.
Similar to Instagram Stories, you can select different filters to use on top of reels. Additionally, you can choose to speed up or slow down any part of your video clips.
Lights, camera, action!
The next step is to actually record your Reel. To make it easy, it is almost exactly the same as recording for an Instagram Story – just hold down the capture button. Remember that Reels can be recorded in a series of clips, or using pre-recorded videos in your camera roll.
To share your finished Reel, simply tap the ‘Next’ button. When sharing your reel, you can decide to add a caption and hashtags to help reach a larger audience.
Lastly, don’t forget, you can edit the video thumbnail; this could even be using a cover from your camera roll.
The secret to success
As long as your account is not set to private, your reels will help you to reach a larger community by appearing on Instagram’s Explore Page. Here, it is more likely to be seen by accounts that don’t follow you and will help to grow your page.
